Hi recycling fans!

The first thing you will say is "only in Seattle", however I thought I would pass on some new trends. The City of Seattle is forbidding recyclable materials in people's garbage and backing it up with fines. They are also getting people to put their food waste and yard waste in a special container that is picked up every two weeks. The food waste includes all paper products that touch food, cereal boxes etc. The waste is taken to a recycler and made into compost that is sold for a profit. These steps were taken to reduce yard waste and recyclables in the landfills. Garbage customers that comply with the rules can work themselves down to a mini can that saves considerably on their garbage bill.

I know that Covington sends around a chipper sometimes. This is the first month the Seattle yard waste system is in place. If you are interested in reading more about it, go to the City of Seattle solid waste site at: http://www.seattle.gov/util/Services/Recycling/index.asp.
